Swiss Map Styles
SOSM operates its own service to the Rendering of cards. On offer are of the style of openstreetmap.orgeasily adapted to the Swiss way of life, and reduced style, which is suitable to their own data about growth.
Alternative Cards
OSM in the first line of the data. There are many free applications that will be devoted to a specific topic and on OSM data. Here are a few useful examples:
- waymarkedtrails.org provides signposted pathways, such as, for example, Hiking trails, Cycling paths or ski slopes.
- Route planner: SOSM operates its own Routing service with different profiles for motorists, cyclists and walkers with Swiss cover. For worldwide coverage to the Routing openstreetmap.org use.
Notes on creating a map with uMap
With uMap, you can simply enter a map with OSM-how to create Background. So, you can plan, for example, the stations of the next holiday, trip, or a map of the best Restaurants in the area to recover.
Map data for the navigation device
SOSM provides complete navigation data packages for Garmin and OSMAnd under the planet.osm.ch available.
Swiss OSRM Routing service
This service is based on OSRM and comprises a plurality of modified Profiles for bike, car and walk, originally from here originate. There is also an experimental profile ‘Foot (vampires)’, this only works within the city of Zurich. These are the terms and conditions of use: note that this service runs on donated servers, and only on a limited capacity. To confine, therefore, the use of no more than one request per second and using a valid User-Agent, and, if possible, a correct Referrer.
Aerial Imagery
SOSM runs an instance of MapProxy to provide imagery to Potlatch 2 and iD editor users and additional imagery not available online.
Currently it provides tiled access to imagery from the cantons of Aargau and Solothurn and the cities of Berne, Geneva and Zurich, and some further special-purpose layer.
Most of this imagery is included in the default configuration of the editor iD, JOSM, Potlatch 2 and vespucci and does not need to be configured manually.
Map Tile Services
SOSM provides a map tile service with multiple different styles and projections. A list of available stzles is available here.
osm.ch provides a web interface to some of these layers. Prerendered tiles can be downloaded from https://tile.osm.ch/tiles.html.
Overpass services for Switzerland
SOSM provides both an instance of the overpass API with the Swiss data and a matching overpass turbo user interface. This is particularly useful together with uMap.
Tag Service
Tag provides statistics and information on tags used in OpenStreetMap tag.osm.ch provides this just for Switzerland.
uMap
One of the most frequently asked question is “how can I show my POI/data/route on an OSM-based map?”. uMap provides a hosted solution that provides that and more. If you have an OSM account you can immediately start using it at http://umap.osm.ch/ .
OSM Data for Switzerland
On http://planet.osm.ch/ SOSM offers daily updated extracts of OSM data for Switzerland, hourly “diffs” that you can utilize to keep a database with OSM data up-to-date and a daily updated map file for the OSMAnd app.
Online routing
http://routing.osm.ch/ provides up-to-date routing for Switzerland for cars, bicycles and pedestrians.
